LAUNCH IN MBALE TODAY
|
|
28th
October 2010
Territorial Approach to Climate Change (TACC)
is an initiative of the UNDP, UNEP and networks of regional
governments. Mbale was chosen as one of the 10 pilot regions
that will have support and engagement of the UNDP over the
next 2 years to develop its own Integrated Territorial Climate
Plan in association with the Ugandan Government.
The overall objective of this project is to support local
decision-makers and planners in the Mbale region to design
and implement an integrated climate change (adaption and mitigation)
plan. This includes policies, strategies, concrete actions
and investment plans that promote long-term sustainability
and poverty reduction in the context of local/ regional development.
Tackling climate change is a key priority for the Welsh Assembly
Government; this commitment is reflected in One Wales –
the programme of government agreed between Welsh Labour and
Plaid Cymru.
Counsel General John Griffiths of the Assembly Government
which has built a strong partnership with the district authorities
and leading NGOs of the Mbale region of Uganda is the chief
guest.
The launch is to be at Mbale Resort Hotel in Mbale, Uganda
