Busamaga
Was our first society to supply Gumutindo in 1999-2000. The
society is well organized and has approximately 600 members
and is still expanding.
Bumayoga
This was the 2nd society to join us in 2001. The farmers
typically grow coffee, bananas, cassava and yams. The average
coffee has 300 trees intercropped with bananas and has between
1 to 2 acres of land.
Communications within in the area are poor and most places
can only be reached on foot.
Buginyanya
Our 3rd society joined us in 2002. The founding chairman,
Dan Namudoto, had been head of the Gourmet Coffee project
set up by Uganda Coffee Development Authority. Gumutindo
assisted the members of that project to setup a new society,
Buginyanya.
Nasufwa
Our 4th society, Nasufwa, joined Gumutindo in 2002. It was
an old society but had been defunct for many years. The
farmers decided to ask for Gumutindo’s help to get
their society up and running again. Nasufwa members’
farms are some of the highest on the mountain, at more than
2,000 metres.
Konokoyi
Konokoyi was a member of Bugisu Co-operative Union (BCU),
however when BCU collapsed, it joined Gumutindo in 2004
as our 5th Society. It has a membership of over 500 member
farmers and still expanding.
Peace Kawomera
The people of Namanyonyi are of diverse tribal and religious
origins with almost every tribe of Uganda represented. The
inhabitants of this area belong to various religious groups
which include Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
To foster coexistence, a committee consisting of Moslems,
Christians and Abajudaya was set up to create a uniting
platform for the different faiths. Peace Kawomera was created
and joined Gumutindo in 2004.
Members plan to plant more coffee and trees to provide shade
to their coffee.
Bukalasi
Our 7th society joined in 2007
Buteteya
Our 8th Society in 2007
Kikuyu
Our 9th society joined in 2007
Nagudi Bwira
Started with 17 members which saw them start a vigorous
campaign of bringing more farmers to the society and this
has profited to having a total of 640 members joining. Zonal
leaders are in place and they act as the main channel of
communication from the top to farmers who are situated in
remote areas. These leaders do visit farmers who are in
the catchment areas assigned to them for easy sharing of
information, training that they need to produce good coffees.
Lwambogo
This is the 11th Society to join gumutindo
